Random Mats
Beba Beba
$50.00
Beba Beba — a Random Mats matatu whose name doubles down on the Swahili word 'beba' (to carry). The repetition is emphatic — this is a matatu that carries, and carries, and carries. Dennis Muraguri's woodcut captures the rhythmic lettering and the repeating motif that made this design a visual chant on Nairobi's streets. The Beba Beba name speaks to the fundamental purpose of matatus: they carry people, they carry goods, they carry culture. The doubled name is both a description of function and a celebration of it. This matatu belongs to a broader 'Beba' series of designs that explore variations on the theme. This reproduction print suits minimalists who appreciate conceptual clarity. It works well in a transport-themed collection or as a standalone piece that celebrates the dignity of labour and movement.
