Matatu for President

Matatu for President is a politically charged work from Kacose Sacco's fleet, blending campaign aesthetics with street-level satire. The design imagines a matatu as a presidential candidate, complete with campaign slogans and a commanding portrait — a wry commentary on Kenya's political landscape and the outsized personalities that dominate it. Dennis Muraguri's woodcut captures the gravity and absurdity in equal measure. Matatus have long served as vehicles for political expression in Kenya, carrying slogans and imagery that comment on elections, policies, and public figures. This piece captures that tradition at its most playful, turning the campaign poster into a mobile art installation that commuters encountered on their daily routes. This print is essential for collectors interested in political art, African satire, or the intersection of transport culture and social commentary. The A3 landscape format gives the campaign-style composition room to breathe.
