Ongata Line Sacco
Schizophrenic [Square Format]
$50.00
Schizophrenic (Square Format) — Ongata Line Sacco's most complex matatu design — is recomposed here as a tightly framed square composition. The original full-vehicle livery was a riot of contrasting portraits, broken typography, and collaged imagery; this square crop isolates the most dramatic elements into a single, balanced frame. The name 'Schizophrenic' was the owner's own, acknowledging the design's deliberate lack of cohesion. In matatu culture, where owners compete to commission the most eye-catching paint jobs, Schizophrenic stood out precisely because it broke the rules. Dennis Muraguri's 2019 woodcut encodes that rebellious energy in every carved line. The square format is ideal for those with limited wall space who still want a piece of Nairobi's most extreme matatu art. It frames beautifully as a standalone piece or pairs with the original landscape version for a diptych that captures the full scope of the design.
